Just started to read and thought the advertising in back should be shared, on a side note... I checked out the camps on B Pond this week.

So, published in 1893? I wonder when the Gerrish advertisement appeared? The first edition dates to 1879.

The first link below has more about the various Gerrish shops around Bangor. He appears to have moved from the Broad Street address to the corner of Exchange and Hancock streets by 1889. Many versions of this book were published starting in 1879. Scanned copies are available from a variety of sources online as shown at the other links below. Good find,

It had always surprised me that Evan H. Gerrish had been able to jump from the woods near Moosehead lake directly to a prime commercial address in the heart of downtown Bangor, Maine in the early 1880s. However, this location was well covered by the Sanborn Insurance maps so they can provide some insights into how his business changed over the years.



His first Maine Register listing was in 1881 under the "Fishing Tackle" heading as "GERRISH E. H., 18 Broad. Manufacturer Fine Rods, Canvas Canoes, Paddles &c." His heading had been expanded to "Fishing Tackle and Canoe...

I have doubts that Gerrish's camp is still standing. I have never seen a photo of it. The photo I have shared of Evan was taken at B Pond. I did find a very descriptive newspaper article describing the camp. I am not sure geographically where it was located.

On another note, I hear the trout fishing is still pretty good in the pond. Did you wet any lines?

We were there on snowmobiles this week.
I only saw that group of camps and 1 more on the shoreline, all were very nice older camps.
