WAITING FOR THE BREEZE: Two beautiful sailing canoes waiting in the still of the morning for a day of sailing to come. The canoe in the background is a reproduction of the canoe Ione from the W.P. Stephens book. The hull was built by member Bill Clements and the spars and hardware were made by member Bob Lavertue, the owner of the canoe. A BEAUTY REBORN: Larry Riker’s 1936, 16 foot, Old Town Yankee. Recanvassed, filled and finished with an authentic Old Town Indian Design, numer four, in 2017, with the help of WCHA Chapter One folks and some good advice from Jerry Stelmok of the Island Falls Canoe Company. EARLY MORNING IN THE ATIRONDACKS: Member Kevin Oldenburg captured this image early on a foggy morning on Lower St. Regis Lake just before he paddled from the alumni camping area to the first day of Assembly. The canoe is a 17 foot 1931 Kennebec Kineo Special with serial number 104018 which Kevin restored, and this was the canoe’s maiden voyage after its restoration. As a distinguished gent once said , " Have you no shame, sir ? " BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD ! ? thwarts ? I know this is not a competition but the closest I can come is some Caribbean Mahogany for my Williams decks and door for the fly fishing accessories cabinet in the bow of my " 92 Saranac and , some interesting grenadellia used to make my oboe. I am in a weakened state with this Corona thingy....and you are prevailing upon me unfairly, me thinks .......BUT , I love that boat, and especially what it has done for your boy. Stay well, y'all .

A GOOD DAY ON THE WATER: Paddlers Annie Nixon and her daughter Meghan enjoy a beautiful day exploring a floating bog area near Woolwich, Maine. The canoe is a 14 foot cedar stripper, built on a Chestnut Fox form by member Abby Burbank. Abby built the canoe in her kitchen in 2013, as she needed the heat from the woodstove to get the glue to dry. 'CANOE DAY’ IN THE UNITED KINGDOM: Member and former UK Chapter Head David Houghton leads the fleet of 27 canoes, 21 of which are wooden canoes, at the start of ‘Canoe Day’ in the UK during June, 2011. The group is starting off from Sonning-on-Thames and paddling downstream by way of two Thames backwaters to Henley-On-Thames. David started this event in 2006 and it grew each year. AT THE PORTAGE: It’s September 2012 and member Craig Johnson, his brother Scott, stepson Matt, and daughter Miki have just completed the portage into the southern tip of Lake Agnes in the Quetico Provincial Park. This is the return trip for the 16 foot 1956 Old Town Guide canoe in the foreground, which Craig inherited from his father and then restored. TULLY RIVER PADDLE: The Norumbega Chapter led a paddle during the 2010 Assembly from Tully Lake to Long Pond on the east branch of the Tully River in Massachusetts. Surrounded by the fragrant pickerel rush, Greg O’Brien and his son in their 1915 B.N. Morris await their turn to make the carry at a beaver dam. The Army Corps of Engineers built the Tully Dam to prevent flooding of the Connecticut River Valley.
