Curious about Wooden Canoes
OK, the numbers are:

133721 - 16 on the sixteen footer
&
110987 - 17 on the seventeen footer

Thanks a bunch, I'm really looking forward to learning the history of the boats!

2 birds...

Whoops, looks like my buddy Mike beat me to the punch. I guess this is the proverbial two birds with one stone.

Thanks again!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 133721 is a 16 foot long, CS grade HW model with a keel. It was built between October, 1941 and February, 1942. The original exterior canvas covering was bright red. It shipped on August 5, 1942 to New York, NY. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 110987 is a 17 foot long, AA grade HW model with a keel. The original stampings are light but the canoe was completed in August, 1933. The original exterior canvas covering was white. It shipped on August 30, 1933 to Peekskill, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Al, thanks a bunch, that's awesome how you guys can get the build records like that. This will make the whole restoration process a lot more fun.

I will have pictures this weekend when I go visit the boats!
