Hi there,

I was hoping to get some information on my old town canoe. It is, I believe, a 1938 canoe. The serial number on the stem is 113395 15. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 113395 is a 15 foot long, CS grade, fifty pound model with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, oak decks, and oak trim. It was built between December, 1933 and July, 1934. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 18th, 1934 to Brewster, Massachusetts. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

1934 old town

Just wanted to say thank you to Mr. Benson Gray for looking up that information. I'm in the process of recanvassing my girl and was wondering what the construction details were. This will be a big help.

Sincerely,

Andres Bermudez
