I just purchased an Old Town Canoe for my son, and was interested in some information on it. The serial number is 191773. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Hello David--

Old Town 191773 is a 16 foot fiberglass canoe that was constructed during October 1972. It was originally red and white-- looks like a "D" in front of the "white", so maybe it's "dark white?" which makes no sense, where "off white" might... anyway, it was shipped to Weymouth, MA, on 11-2-1972. The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Hope your son enjoys his canoe!

Kathy

Thanks for the info Kathy! The canoe is in excellent condition, so it is the exact color scheme that you mentioned. It has a parquet(sp) floor, sealed in fiberglass, which is what caught my eye. I am much happier with a "classic" than I would have been with a new one.
