serial number help

Hi - I recently discovered a wood & canvas canoe with serial numbers stamped in both stems. the number is 16-48663. The exact imprint looks like this - 16-48=663.

i would welcome any help on this!

My guess is that you have a 16 foot long canoe from the White Canoe Company that was built in 1948 as described at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=3644 in your other posting. More information can be found in the White catalogs contained on the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection CD available from http://merchandise.wcha.org/index.php?cPath=90_91 and http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm on the web. Another source is Island Falls Canoe at http://www.islandfallscanoe.com/about-us.asp which has many of the original wooden forms of the White Canoe Company. Good luck with your restoration.
