Hi there,
just curious to find out some more information about my old town. It is an 18 ft, and what I was told a 1955 or 1954 but i don't know any other info on it. The serial number is 157432. Any info would help. Thanks!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 157432 is a 15 1/2 foot lapstrake canoe. Either you have a different make canoe, or you need to take another look at its serial number. Posting photos of the serial number here may help, and posting photos of the canoe may helop identify it if it is not an Old Town.

My guess is that you may have the Old Town with serial number 157482. This is an 18 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with a keel, and sponsons. It was built between April and June, 1952. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 21st, 1952 to Valdez, Alaska.

A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/[ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

The build record for 157432 is also attached below showing a lapstrake boat if you are curious. Some pictures of the numbers from each end (and the nameplate on the bow deck) of your canoe could help as Greg mentioned. The information at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?791 may also be useful. Please reply here if you have other questions. Thanks,

Benson
