Serial #7689

Looking for help identifying my canoe, which has been in my family at least three generations. I believe she might be an Old Town, the serial # is 7689, stamped on stern stem. She's a 14 footer, closed gun wale, with keel, originally canvas over planking, but was fiberglassed about 1960ish. Family from northwest Vermont. Thanks for your help!

The Old Town serial number 7689 went on an 11.5 foot long dinghy in 1908 so that isn't a good match. The Carleton record for this number is missing and it appears that Kennebec skipped it. Old Town didn't offer 14 foot canoes as a standard size as Dave mentioned. It will take more than a serial number alone to identify it. Can you provide some pictures of the serial numbers from both ends with the surrounding area (to see if there any hidden digits), the decks, more interior details, the profile of the stem, and confirm the overall extreme length in a straight line? Thanks,

Benson
