Thanks in advance for the search of serial # 158624 17

This canoe has been in my wife's family forever - possibly since it was new.

Best,

Wayne

Old Town 158624 is a 17 foot CS (common sense, or middle) grade Otca model canoe that was completed October-December of 1952. It has a keel and was originally painted dark green, then shipped to Chicago on January 7, 1953.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It's great to have a family canoe-- if this record doesn't seem to fit what you are seeing, we can try again.

More information on the Otca model, from our forums archives, may be accessed by using the "search" function above and inserting the term "Otca"... and any further questions are welcome too. You may also find the book "Old Town, Our First Hundred Years" by Sue Audette interesting.

Many thanks Kathryn!

We find ourselves with 1 too many Otca's and will be selling this one. It is in very good original condition with multiple layers of paint and broken/no cane in the seats... any thoughts as to value and the best place to sell it?

We are in southwestern Connecticut.

Best,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Here's a discussion of canoe value:

One place to consider listing is in the WCHA classifieds. You may want to look around there to see what others are asking for a canoe similar to yours. EBay and craigslist are other popular places to list canoes for sale.

Best of luck re-homing your canoe.
