Old Town 15 Footer

LV2 Foot

I would like to request a serial number search for the following Old Town Serial # 169231 15 this canoe belongs to my father and he has owned and actively used it since the mid 1960's.

Thank you for your help.

Old Town #169231 was a 15-foot 50-pounder with a keel that was originally dark green. It was shipped in 1959 to Tampa, Florida. There was an adjacent record that may or may not have been related to this canoe that indicated some sort of inquiry from Oregon in 1979.

The scans of these records are attached below-- click to get a larger image. These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

If you are selling your canoe and plan to use this build record information as part of an ad, please consider giving the WCHA credit for this information on eBay or craigslist or wherever your canoe is listed.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

The adjacent record in this case probably goes with the previous scan for the serial number 169232. The scans showing the back sides of the build record (if there is anything written there) are typically shown after the scan for the front side of the build record with the next higher scan number.

Thank you for the information. I do not think that the adjacent record goes with this canoe. My father purchased this canoe in Tampa FL from the orginal owner sometime before the summer of 1960. He has owned it since that time. Many years ago he fiberglassed the outside instead of replacing the canvas. There are no plans to sell this canoe and I am sure my brother and I are both going to want it when that time comes. It has always been stored inside when not in use and we have paddled it all over Florida. The wood is all orginal and currently it needs the cane replaced on the rear seat. Other then that it is very usable and we continue to use it.

Thank you for providing the information and after finding your site I purchased a membership to the WCHA for my father for father's day. He is looking forward to getting your magizine.
