Here is where I am at. I have a 16ft sponson canoe/ boat. The man I bought it from called it a Sebago square stern with built in sponsons. His father in law owned it and glassed it in 1957. My resaer h has shown that Carlton martin built boats in East sebago Maine from 1890 thru 1920( I dont know if this turned Into the sebago canoe and boat company that made boats in the 50s) I found numbers in the center up front 15-1/2 30341. The man I bought it fro. Thought that they had glassed over a wooden boat but since it has invisible sponsons I am assuming that it was canvas from the beginning? Anyone know what I have ? I have pictures but the w vsite won't let me upload. Says they are too large? In

I see now that this was a canvas canoe I think and has been glassed over. it seems auite common. still like to know what ihave

My guess is that you have the Kennebec with serial number 30341. This is an 15.5 foot, Joy Boy square end model with sponsons shown in the Kennebec records on pages 145 of volume three and pages 586 and 587 or volume five. It was planked by Roy on March 26th, 1927. The sponsons were attached by Lockard and then Roy canvased it on the same day. Grant applied the first filler coat on the same day. L. Thibodeau applied the second filler coat in October of 1927. It was trimmed with mahogany. F. Roy added the rails on December 21st, 1928. The "F 22" (Function number 22 or the keel?) was completed by L. Thib. on December 22nd, 1928. He completed the "F 24" (Function number 24 or the finish work) on December 24th, 1928, "F 25" (Function number 25) on December 26th, 1928, and "F 28" (Function number 28 or the painting) on December 27th, 1928. The original color was not recorded. I shipped to location "29-233" on April 10th, 1929. This location is probably an order number but we don't currently have enough information to identify it. Thank you so much! I can see that this is what I have from the photos! I was confused because of the seat supports that are on it( you may have e noticed that they are brass rods split the long way and bent and flattened on each end) the only place I ha e seen these is on the " sebago" boat pictures that I have seen

I obviously have e a joyboy.have you seen these metal supports on other manufacturer/ models? They dont seem to belong on mine?

Does the catalog available for purchase have pictures of my boat?

The Joy-Boy was shown in the Kennebec catalogs from 1926 to 1941 but none of those pictures appear to include metal supports. The ones in your boat may have been added during a previous repair. The Joy-Boy shown in the 1927 catalog (when your boat was started) appears to have no supports. The Joy-Boy II shown in the 1929 catalog (when your boat was shipped) appears to have wooden supports. L. L. Bean also seems to have also offered a private labeled version of this boat called "The Maine" in their 1927 catalog. This could have been built with supports that were not shown in the catalog picture. All of these pages are shown below. The scanned catalog collection has more details.

You may also want to see if you can contact Jim Steele about his one with serial number 30347. He asked about it at https://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/35/ in 2004 and may be able to confirm what type of seat supports it had.
