Who hid my paddle?
154524 13. This canoe was unfortunately 'glassed. Fortunately it was glassed awhile ago and not well. It's going to take alot of work. Hope I'm up to the challenge. Belongs to a friend who just retired. His mom bought it for him as a 16th birthday present in 1955. BTW he sat next to Joe Frasier on the plane to the Tokyo Olympics and won the gold in four man rowing. I think Joe won a gold too. Boxing or something. My friend is on his way to Boston to compete again, this time an eight man rowing team. this week I think he said. Anyway, this canoe will go to his grandsons.
Thanks so much.
Regards. Dave.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 154524 is a 13 foot long, CS grade, fifty pound model with Western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, a center keel, and two bilge keels. It was built between July, 1950 and January, 1951. The original exterior paint color was dark green enamel. It shipped on January 23rd, 1951 to Detroit, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
