Repair or replace stem ?

The stem I'm trying to repair needs aprox. 8 inches of the stem tip replaced. At what point do you replace the entire stem? Any suggestions?

I would still repair it at that point. Full replacement takes amuch more time due to having to match the beveled notches at the heel and just trying to coax the planking off at the base of the stem is very tricky.
