I used oil based enamel from Lowes and decided to skip the bedding compound in favor of adding more tacks to secure the seam, lots of paint as well. Won't know until tomorrow if it leaks. I think I'll order my bedding compound now for the next canoe. If it is on hand it will get used.
I sent pictures to Ron Overstreet (Mr. Trailcraft) in Kansas and asked him if he recognized the canoe. If anyone knows it is likely him. Until then it is just another UFO, but a nice one. At 65 years of age that light weight is really great on the portage.
