Redwood for Planking?

Does anyone have any experience using redwood for planking? A friend had a house fire and the renovators tore our a lot of 5/4 redwood planking in long lengths that were unaffected by the fire. They were going to trash it and he spoke up for it. My experience with redwood leads me to believe it is similar in characteristics to red cedar which is what I was going to use for planking. It's very light, very rot resistant and tends to be brittle like red cedar. The price is right as he's willing to let me have all I want.

I don't know why it wouldn't work as planking. It can also make pretty decent strippers. You just need to be careful making tight bends or twists as it can shatter if pushed too far.

Thanks Todd. I'll give it a try. Craig, I'll let you know how I make out. Will try to use lots of hot water and towels on the bends.
