Peterborough Model/Date ?

Have a wood/canvas canoe that I'm told is a Peterborough. The numbers are stamped in the bottom rail of the bow and read 9914 30. Anyone know how to identify? Have just re-evaluated and determine the number to be 9914 50, instead. Would photos of this canoe help or interest anyone?

Not likely a Peterborough

Peterborough # 50 was a 14.5' longitudinal strip canoe built from 1909 to 1921. Pictures and dimentions would be helpful.

Canadian Canoe Co manufactured a wood canvas canoe with the model #50. It's measurements are 16' x 34" x 12".

Photos would be great. Since the Canadian Canoe Company was at one time owned by the Chestnut Canoe Campany, as was the Peterborough Canoe Company, was this canoe the same as a given Chestnut or Peterborough model?

I cant speak with authority, however my model 50 was built in 1916, before Peterborough, Chestnut and CCC were merged in 1923. Though I believe CCC carried on with their own models, I would be curious to see a later model as they were likely built on the same form. It does closely resemble my low end Peterborough Champlain, #1492 however they do seem to have subtle differences.
Mr Persson will set things straight I am sure...

Here's a few pictures of my 16' Peterborough Champlain low end model with a 34" beam. Restoration was completed last month. It is available for adoption if anyone is interested. Apparently the interior, seats and thwarts came Walnut stained from the factory. I wonder if the model 50 Canadian is the same canoe.

Ebay #120705692656 has lots of similarities and some differences to your CCC. Keel screws at every rib and specie of seat wood are noticeable differences. The hull shapes are likely fairly similar.

Dennis, I suspect that your #50 most likely was built by the Chestnut Canoe Co sometime in the 1950's and marked for sale as a Canadian Canoe Co model #50.

The Canadian Canoe Co introduced the model # 50 sometime in the early 1910’s. This model was built by them until the early 1950’s. However, between the end of WW2 and mid 1950’s the CCCo model #50 was also built by Chestnut Canoe Co using their 16’ pleasure model forms. Those forms were also used to make several Peterborough models.
The Canadian Canoe Co was an independent company until it was purchased by the Canadian Watercraft Limited in 1928.

Canadian Watercraft was formed the 10th of August 1923. This company already owned Chestnut Canoe Company, Peterborough Canoe Co and Wm. English Canoe Co when Canadian Canoe Co was purchased in 1928. The Canadian Watercraft Limited was owned by two groups of shareholders; the Peterborough group that held 2654 shares and the Fredericton group that held 2268 shares. In 1954 Jack Richardson, the GM of the Peterborough Canoe Co branch, purchased the remaining shares from the Chestnut family.
