I just acquired a Peterborough Champlain (#1492- Low End). The serial number of 3557 is also on the stem. Can we tell anything about the build year, etc. from that??

Not much, but that the canoe was made sometime between 1939 and 1961. However if the width of your canoe is 36” then it was made 1960 or 1961.
