Paint, I’m never happy

For what it's worth Chris, Jack and Andy both said red and yellow are tough! Personally I've taken up yoga to deal with the stress. Sometimes I enlist the help of Jack Daniels.

Light colors always require additional work to look good. The Old Town catalogs from 1903 to 1944 listed an extra charge for white canoes. The 1919 catalog page below has more details about the costs for white, letters, and stripes.

Kirbys by the way. The more I use it the more I like it

When it's good, it's very very good, when it's bad, it's horrid....
I admired a paint job Pat Smith did on an Old Town centerboard...bright yellow, it was absolutely perfect. It was so good that I convinced myself to use Kirby again on the next canoe I painted....
Pat had some magic in his shop. My paint job was wretched.

I think it's the shape of the canoe , especially after filling and sanding so much that everyone wants smooth and flowing, so their paint has to be that way also. Classic boats , work boats with flat sections all look good in Kirby's. I see George at his booth at the boat Show in mystic every year.
Their booth , T shirts and George and his wife are such nice people I'd buy the paint anyway I use Kirby's on skiff interiors and people absolutely love it. No I don't work for them.

Yes and No and then Maybe . The fact is that the person sees the canoe as a work of art and the response is extraordinarily personal. It makes no real sense to judge , dismiss or even be concerned about it . Rather perhaps take another route and wonder if something is missing here as Rod Serling used to say in .................
