OT serial number request

The scanned Old Town records stop at 210999 so none of us have any newer information. Old Town stopped keeping detailed records in the late 1980s and yours is probably after that. They issued serial number 500,000 in 1995. You can also look for the hull identification number on the starboard stern that contains an embedded shipping date. Good luck,

Benson

Old Town 170332 is an 18 foot Guide model canoe, so this may be the correct record. The canoe was completed August-September of 1960. It has a keel and was originally guide special green. Shipping date was October 21, 1960, and it went to Don Gleason's Campers in Northampton, MA. In a Google search, I see that this company is still in business.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy
