Build record for OT 181583-18

Hi Pat,

Just got settled into our digs here at Paul Smith's and am thankful for easy computer hook-up! Wish you were here!

Old Town 181583 is an 18 foot Guide model canoe finished September--October 1968 in LC yellow. I think "LC" has been deciphered before, but I can't recall what it was... "light creamy"..."largely clear"... ? It was shipped to Superior Shipper Assoc in Seattle on April 23, 1969 and then forwarded on to Frontier Sporting Goods in Fairbanks, Alaska. The scan of your build record record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that anyone reading this will join or renew membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy

Lc

My guess is the LC Yellow is a very vivid lead chromate (LC) yellow.

Vivid yellow, lead chromate (PbCrO4).

Thanks, Kathy. That's going above and beyond to look this up while you're at Assembly! Fitz's assessment that LC yellow was vivid is true in this case. This canoe was a very bright yellow indeed.
