Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello,
I just joined WCHA and posted a request for info in the wrong forum. I'm trying to get more info on the canoe I just picked up. I'm going to restore it and want to replace parts like for like.
Thank you,
Jeff

Welcome to the WCHA. The Old Town canoe with serial number 88375 is a 18 foot long, GS (Guide's Special or low) grade, Guide's Special model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, and a keel. It was built between October, 1925 and June, 1926. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 22nd, 1926 to The Weirs, New Hampshire.

A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

Please reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration,

Benson
