Needs major restoration. Trying to decide whether to sell as is or restore.
Belongs to my Uncle. He thinks it was built between 1915-1920 and was originally from New York state.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Your request is not being ignored. This record is missing from the scanned collection so I have asked the factory to verify if it still exists in the original paper records. This may take a few days. Sorry,

Benson

While Benson is trying to obtain the actual record for you, you may amuse yourself with this.

The build card will provide you the actual start and ship dates but with a swag it looks your boat was shipped between 1916 and 1918 ish.
From previous related correspondence with Benson I learned that Old Town had quite a bit of slow moving inventory due the war and recession so the build sheet really is necessary.

I stopped by the factory today and was able to get a copy of the original build record for your canoe. The Old Town canoe with serial number 41094 is a 17 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Ideal model with red western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, half ribs, and a keel. It was built between January and July, 1916. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It was shipped on July 24th, 1916 to Endicott, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

Most of the scans like this were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. It is usually best to sell a canoe as is since it is very difficult to guess how the ultimate buyer might want it restored. See http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57 for more information about how to value your canoe. The classifieds at http://wcha.org/pp-classifieds/ are often the fastest way to find a good new home for a canoe like this. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
