Actually, I'm pretty sure Mr. Benson can supply me with one, which would be appreciated. Looks like a 40's Charles River, CS, with long decks, cowling and keel.
The Old Town canoe with serial number 144543 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between March and May, 1946. The original exterior paint color was turquoise blue to match a sample that was provided. This was also lettered with the name "JILL" on the right and left sides of the bow. It shipped on June 4th, 1946 to Green Lake, Wisconsin. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.
It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Please attach some pictures if the original paint design is still showing. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
