Ot 13'

How long is your canoe? If the canoe is 13' long check the number again on both stems. The Old Town canoe with serial number 81534 is an 18' Guides Special model with spruce gunwales, birch decks, thwarts and seats. It has a keel. It was built between November, 1923 and April 1924. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 21, 1924 to Binghamton, NY. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

My guess is that you have the Old Town canoe with serial number 181534. This is a 13 foot long Light Weight model with a keel. It was built between September and October, 1968. The original exterior canvas covering was painted LC(?) yellow. It shipped on April 25th, 1969 to Rochester, New York. The back side of the card indicates that it was purchased on May 2nd, 1969 and moved to Dover, New Hampshire. Scans showing both sides this build record can be found by following the links behind the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you may know well by now.
