Lookiing for OT info.

Hi Vern--

Old Town 38136 is a GS grade IF model canoe, finished between April 1915 and March 1916. It has red Western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, and ash decks, thwarts, and seat frames. It has a keel and was painted dark red, then shipped to Howe, Massachusetts, on April 15, 1916.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

I've also included an image from the 1916 Old Town Catalog, from the catalog collection on CD edited by Benson Gray and Dan Miller, which is available through dragonflycanoe.com. This should help explain the IF model. Using the "search" function above may bring up some posts about it too.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy
