back in the '30s, yes...
Old Town 126546 is a 16 foot CS (common sense, or middle grade) Otca model canoe that was finished January-June of 1939. It has open spruce gunwales, birch decks, thwarts, and seat frames, and a keel. It was originally painted dark green, with 4" high initials "RAH" in gold on the left bow and right stern. It was shipped to Teaneck, NJ, on July 1, 1939. There was an inquiry about the canoe from a party in Kensington, Connecticut, on 9/9/74 (this appears on the reverse of the card).
In 1957, the old Otca model was retired, along with the Yankee model, and the Yankee form (which only came in 16') was used to make 16 foot Otcas ever since. So, a 16 foot Otca from 1957 and thereafter would have short decks and would essentially be a Yankee.
The scans of front and back of this record are attached below-- click to get larger images. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
