I don't believe Old Town has kept records on their canoes for more than ten years. The number provided isn't the serial number, however, but (as Paul said) that Coast Guard HIN number provides the date. Even if Old Town was still keeping records, those records wouldn't say more than the 2004 date, the model (Stillwater) and original color (dark green) and the fact that it's a fiberglass canoe. I'll attach the page from the 2003 Old Town catalog (courtesy "The Complete Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection, 1901- 1993", available on CD from http://www.wcha.org/catalog/ and http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm on the web)
which describes the Stillwater... and putting all this together should give you a semblance of what a build record might have said, if not more.
Denis and I stopped-in at Old Town while in Maine a few days ago and had a great time chatting with one of the employees. It was really cool, knowing all the originals of the records I look up on CD were right there!
