Old Town Serial #

LOVES Wooden Canoes
I was hoping for information on an Old Town canoe serial # 110782-17. It currently resides in Williamsport Pennsylvania and has seen much much better days...I'd like to restore it! Thanks so much...currently it is red and has outside stems and a cargo rack and rotten decks with coaming.

Hi Jimbo--

Old Town 110782 is a 17 foot CS (common sense) grade Otca model, with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, and decks, seats, and thwarts made of oak. It was fitted with a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack and painted dark red before being shipped to L. Baumberger & Co. in Newark, NJ on April 14, 1932.

Dates of other aspects of the canoe's construction don't show up very well on this scan... these dates are stamped on the original record, and it seems that the ink must have faded and didn't show up clearly on the scan.

Glad you'll be rescuing her!

The scan of this record is attached below. Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details.

I know you are already a WCHA member, but for others reading this, please join WCHA or make a tax deductible contribution so that services like this can continue.
