Hello Doug,
The record for Old Town 125201 appears to fit your rowboat, except the length on the record looks like "13"... probably just how it appears, and it's actually "18".
125201 is a Special Double End Boat that was finished June-July of 1938. It's CS (common sense, or middle) grade, with open spruce gunwales, ash decks and spruce seats. It has a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and was originally painted dark green. It was shipped to the Division of Conservation in Sandusky, Ohio, on July 11, 1938. The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to see a larger image.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and
http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.
I've also uploaded information on the double ended boat from Old Town's 1938 catalog, courtesy of "The Complete Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection, 1901- 1993", available on CD from
http://www.wcha.org/catalog/ and
http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm on the web. The boat in the catalog is available in the 16 foot size... perhaps the designation "special" means it was a special order.
If this record doesn't seem to fit your canoe, recheck the numbers on both stems and we can look some more.
We like seeing pictures, if you have any!
Kathy
