The Old Town canoe with serial number 42458 is a 16 foot, AA grade, Double Ended Boat model with western red cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and a painter ring. It was built between May and June, 1916. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 3rd, 1916 to the Cobb Camps in Denmark, Maine. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will contribute, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. There is a nice picture of one at this camp on page 4 of the 1919 Old Town catalog. This and lots of other good information is available at http://www.wcha.org/store/complete-old-town-canoe-company-catalog-collection in the Complete Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection. The camp is now known as Camp Winona (http://www.winonacamps.com/ ) and was home to the Maine Canoe Symposium (http://www.mainecanoesymposium.org/) for many years. See http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/99/ for a similar example. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
