Old Town Information 146795

I was looking at future projects this weekend and got curious to know some information about SN 146795.

Old Town 146795 is a 16 foot CS (common sense) grade HW model with open spruce gunwales, slat seats (a feature of the war years), and sponsons. It was given design #46 and shipped to Montgomery Ward in Rome, NY on April 8, 1947.

Design 46 appears to be a mustard color with a wide navy stripe along the gunwales, swooping around the stems.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Thanks for joining WCHA.

Thank you very much Kathy,

Interesting, a "Monky Wards" OT. Who ever would have guessed. Not quite the same pedigree as the AF I once owned.

You have helped to solve a puzzle for me. I could not figure out why this canoe has no seats. Now I (kind of) know.

I don't think slat seats will go back in if and when I ever get around to this canoe. Do you or does anyone here have any photo's of what those seats should look like, how they were mounted?

Regards,

Mike

Interesting, while I was out of town I stopped following that post. Perfect pictures of the seats.
