The Old Town canoe with serial number 177483 is a 15 foot long Feather Weight model with a keel, rub rails, mast seat, mast step, and complete rudder assembly. It was built between January and February, 1967. The original exterior dacron covering was red. It shipped on February 2nd, 1967 to the San Francisco, California. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below. More history is not available since the original owner did not return their warranty card.
This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See

The Old Town Canoe Company catalogs between 1966 and 1974 listed the feather weight model. It was covered with dacron in place of canvas. The weight was 46 pounds while the identical lightweight model with a light canvas covering was 58 pounds. The general specifications for Old Town Canoes can be found at

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
