I have accuired a set of wooden paddles that join in the middle with a metal ferral, both ends are marked with an Okd Town label. Wondering as to age and are they to be used in a canoe .
Thanks in advance for any information.

Tufflure,

You have a beautiful set of spoon blade paddles. Yes, they were and still are used with a canoe, often while paddling solo. They appear to be made of spruce as were most of them. They date from the 1950s or '60s. See the attached thread that compares Old Town decal styles. http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=2955&highlight=town+decal+age

I have two pairs of double paddles neither is as nice as yours. The decals on both of mine are located on the face of the blade yours is on the back. When used with a canoe the total length when fitted together needs to approach 8 feet. Canoes need longer paddles than kayaks because canoes are wider and you are sitting higher.
