I’m new to the WCHA and this forum. Looking for info on OT serial number 8030 or number 18030. (It’s hard to read). Any suggestions.

Posting photos of the canoe (decks, stem profile, seats, thwarts, etc) can help verify it's an Old Town. A good photo of the serial number can reveal more of what it actually is, such as the possible initial "1", and possibly an additional "1", which could make the SN 118030.

Welcome, it may take some more pictures and details (like the length) to identify your canoe. The link below has the build records for 18030 and 118030 from a previous request. The Old Town canoe with serial number 8030 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade Charles River model with red Western cedar planking, closed spruce double gunwales, spruce decks, spruce thwarts, spruce seats, and a keel. It was built between November, 1907 and March, 1908. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped in 1908. A scan showing this build record can be found below.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. It is not unusual for an old low four digit serial number like this to have at least one hidden digit. Can you supply some pictures as Paul suggested? The serial numbers from each end with the surrounding areas, the bow deck, and the extreme length in a straight line would be most helpful. It could be from another builder. The Kennebec with serial number 8030 is 18 feet long from 1912. The Carleton with it is also 18 feet long from 1910. The Morris canoe with it is estimated to be from 1911.
