Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 146051 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and sponsons. It was built between July and October 1946. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on October 9th, 1946 to Albany, New York. There was extensive damage in shipping and it returned to the factory on December 3rd, 1946. This was repaired and it shipped again on February 21st, 1947 to North Scituate, Massachusetts. It appears to have been restored at least once in the past 70 years since the sponsons were removed, a modern name plate was added, and the paint design number 45 as shown at
https://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design45.gif was applied. A decal like the one shown at
https://www.woodencanoe.org/product-page/old-town-deck-decal-1906-1954 would have been on the deck when it shipped originally. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.
These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and
https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. If you intend to use the canoe and the canvas cloth on the hull leaks badly then it is typically replaced rather than repaired. A local restorer listed at
https://www.woodencanoe.org/builders-suppliers or chapter listed at
https://www.woodencanoe.org/chapters may be able to help if you are not sure how to proceed. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck,
Benson
