My friend purchased a home with this Old Town Canoe left in the rafters of a small barn. Appears to be in good shape. She is looking for information on model, year etc. She is also interested in selling and would appreciate tips on determining value.

Thanks,

Hello,
The Old Town Canoe with serial number 162452-16 is a 16' Yankee in CS (common sense) grade, built in November of 1954 and shipped to Chicago in May of 1955. The original color was bright red. A copy of the build record is attached.

Regarding the value of the canoe, it will vary greatly with condition, and location. I'd suggest that you watch a few e-bay auctions to get an idea of what the "going" price is. Bottom line is there are any number of folks that will give you estimated worth, but the actual value is determined when someone opens his wallet. For additional thoughts on value see http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=57

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
