The Old Town canoe with serial number 20535 is an 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, MC model with closed spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, spruce outside finish rails, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between January and March, 1912. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on March 19th, 1912 to Montreal, Canada. There was a previous request for a copy of this build record from Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada in July of 1978 as shown on the back side of this build record.
The Old Town canoe with serial number 235457 is a 16 foot long Chipewyan Camper model that weighed 73 pounds when it was built in August of 1980. The original exterior color was green. It shipped on February 24th, 1981 to Binghamton, New York. The back side of the card indicates that it has some rough skin and two small skin breaks on the inside that were filled. Scans showing both sides of these two build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.
These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if these descriptions don't match your canoe. It would really help if you could post some pictures of your canoe, especially ones showing the serial numbers from each end. Occasionally serial numbers were changed like this when a canoe was converted from an Old Town to a Carleton or vice versa. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
