I am refurbishing the family canoe after a windstorm blew it into a tree. When stripping the varnish I was able to make out the serial number and would appreciate any information on this canoe. 100376. We have it at Wrights Lake, California. High up in the Sierras. I believe my wife's grandfather purchased it in 1929 or 1930 through Placer Lumber Company.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 100376 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between January and March, 1929. The original exterior paint color was maroon. It shipped on March 7th, 1929 to Los Angeles, California. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
