Old Town build record 66299

Well, The Old Town with serial number 66299 is an 18 foot long I.F. (or Guide's) model that shipped to Chicago in 1921 so that doesn't seem like a good match. My guess is that you may be looking for number 166299. This is a 15 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, fifty pound model with a keel. It was built between May and July, 1957. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 12th, 1957 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join, renew, or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Let me know if you want the other build record. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you Benson, you may be right. I didn't see the canoe myself but relied on my brother's assessment of the number. He has apparently succumbed to the wooden canoe affliction due to his time admiring and helping with mine! He was off looking at two canoes 10 minutes from home on his own!
