Old Town build record 125230 16

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Once again I'd appreciate the build record for Alford Lake Camp's other rowboat.

Thanks very much,

Bruce Malone

Hi Bruce,

My records skip this one... they go from 229 (scan 13982) to 233 (scan 13981). Don't know why this happened... sorry.

The scans in this box are not well organized. The ones with information on both sides are separate from the single sided ones. The Old Town with serial number 125230 is shown on scans number 14319 and 14320. It shows a 16 foot long double end boat model in CS (Common Sense or the middle) grade with open spruce gunwales, spruce seats, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between June, 1938 and August, 1940. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on June 10th, 1941 to Alford Lake Camp in South Hope, Maine. The other side of the record shows that it was returned for repairs on October 28th, 1964 and went back on April 15th, 1965. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail images below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that they could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe although that doesn't seem likely. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Thank you.

Glad you could find the info. I'll pass the information on to the owner.
