Curious about Wooden Canoes
I have come across an old 20' OT canoe, was looking for info on the serial # 64649...Thanks

The Old Town with serial number 64649 is a 20 foot long, GS (Guide's Special or low) grade, IF (Indian Fishing) or Guide's model canoe with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, maple decks, maple thwarts, maple seats, a keel, and two painter rings. It was built between January and June, 1921. The original exterior paint color was dark blue with "E. L. C." lettered in blue on a tan stripe on the right and left bow. It shipped on June 10th, 1921 to Readfield, Maine. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Turns out the current owner is an old friend of mine living in Maine. We recently reconnected. Trading him a few British Seagull outboards for the canoe.
Going to meet up at the Jack Frost Festival at the White Grass Ski Resort in the Canaan Valley WV. I take 500 oysters each year to the fundraiser and have a crew of friends who steam and hand them out.
If you like oysters, blue grass music, beer truck, everything free, and a great weekend swing by on 06DEC. I will be driving the green truck with a 20ft green canoe on top, hard to miss!
