Curious about Wooden Canoes
I may have already asked for this canoe but I can't find anything in the forum. My apologies if I did.

OT 27842 18 I think it is a Guide model?

Thanks!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 27842 is an 18 foot long, GS (Guide Special or utility) grade, IF (or Guide) model with red Western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, spruce outside finish rails, and a keel. It was built between July and August, 1913. The original exterior paint color was slate. It shipped on September 2nd, 1913 to Norcross, Maine. A scan showing the build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Page 18 of the 1913 Old Town catalog at https://www.woodencanoe.org/_files/ugd/537308_b3c883a050e64735b8068c59f4698bfb.pdf has more details. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
