Old Town 18' wood/canvas canoe....value ?

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Good day to you all,

I have an 18' Old Town wood/canvas canoe that I'm planning to sell. I bought this canoe from a friend back in 1988 with the intention of restoring it. Sometime in the distant past, a previous owner had stored this fine craft upside down on the ground, which rotted the inwhale & outwhale at each of the ends ( bow & stern ). Anyway......except for the "gunwhales" and keel, the hull is in excellent condition. The canvas was somewhat brittle and peeling at several stress points when I got it and I eventually removed it (still have it though). The serial number appears to be "1 5 ? 0 6 7", but I've never been able to clearly ID this serial number.

This model resembles an 18' guide, but I can't say for sure without making some comparisons of the various models.

It appears I will never get to this project, so I think it's time to let go of it. What do you suppose it's worth......ball park ?

Regards, Vic

The best information about how to value an old canoe can be found at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=57 in the FAQ. There is no charge to advertise a free canoe in the classifieds at http://classifieds.wcha.org/ and I'm sure that it would find a good home this way. You may also want to take another look at that serial numbers on each stem since none of the Old Town numbers in the 15?067 range show an 18 foot long canoe.
