I was given this canoe in pretty sad shape and am in the process of a restoration. A friend suggested that I reach out to this group to find additional information about the canoe and its pedigree. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 176309 is an 18 foot long Guide model with a keel and the stern seat mounted 31 inches from the stern. It was built between June, 1966 and January, 1967. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It shipped on May 16th, 1967 to Ashland, Massachusetts. The back side of the card shows that there was a previous request for a copy of this information on August 4th, 1982 from Ashland, Massachusetts. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Page three of the 1967 Old Town catalog at the link below has more details. Let me know if you have other questions.
