Hi Hodtay--
Old Town 171899 is a 17 foot Otca model canoe that was completed March-July of 1962. It has half-ribs and a keel and was originally painted white. It was shipped to Ottumwa, Iowa, on July 24, 1962. The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. The information you gave me matches what I know about this boat from the owner. The canvas is removed from the hull but I can can see evidence of white colored canvas. I'm new to this type of restoration and to this site. I'll be posting many questions.
