Curious about Wooden Canoes
My father bought this Old Town new. It was a special order with a special paint stripe and mahogany parts.
Curious what the records say for 164432, shipped to Wiegel's in Franklin, PA.
Thanks!
Kurt

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 164432 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Otca model with a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between December, 1955 and January, 1956. The original exterior paint color was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design46.gif which was known as the design number 46. It shipped on January 31st, 1956 to Franklin, Pennsylvania. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or manufacturer if the description doesn't match. Canoes with a family connection are always extra special. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you Benson!
It has spent its whole storage life sitting about 8 miles from where it was sold. :)
It was an custom order that wasn't picked up. It was several years old when my father bought it. I still have the invoice somewhere.
That's the paint stripe, but it's white, not yellow. Original paint. It still has the floor rack.
Don't all wc canoes have keels and o/s stems or am I just not understanding the terminology?

Thanks!
I hate to say, but that options pie chart makes no sense. That's the wrong type of chart. The options are not mutually exclusive and will never add up to 100%. 60% had no options - but they don't appear in that chart.
A pie chart is appropriate for colors, models, lengths - items that are mutually exclusive, i.e. it either has to be one or the other. But options should be a bar chart or the like.

Since the data exists, I could easily create a correct chart if desired.
