Hello, AD--
Old Town 169171 is a 16 foot Otca model built between February and April of 1960. Not much detail in this build record, as you will see... no mention of the canoe's grade, so I suppose it's up to you to determine that for yourself. Does it appear to be mahogany? Then it's AA grade... otherwise, it's CS.
The canoe was fitted with a keel and outside stems, painted red (just plain ol'
red) and shipped to Dempsey's Canoe House in Washington, DC on April 16, 1960.
Copy of the scan is attached below... if you want a larger version, email me at

If I'm not mistaken, you're already a WCHA member... but others reading this should know just how much we appreciate your tax deductible contribution, so that services like this can continue. See

I know there's a heap o' Otca information in the archives of this board... if you click on "search" above, and type in "Otca" (without the quotes around it), you'll find interesting historical insights into your canoe... such as, the change in the deck-style from a longer deck with coaming to the traditional OT look, and the use of the retired Yankee form to create the modern Otca... and where the name "Otca" came from... neat stuff to rattle off when you're taking family members down the river.
