Curious about Wooden Canoes
researching old town 154875 any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks again for all your help, A.D.

The canoe with Build Record #154875 was a 15' CS (common sense) grade 50# model with a keel. It was painted Dark Green and shipped to the University of Maryland in May of 1951. The Dolfinite notation on this boat makes it a bit unusual - perhaps Dan or Benson can jump in on how many boats were constructed like this.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

The reference to Dolfinite may simply be to the bedding compound by that name. The Dolfinite brand was also used by Woolsey for some of its anti-fouling products, so it might also refer to that. Don't know what was available in the '50s...

Dan, I thought of bedding compound, but then noticed that there is no notation about the boat being filled. Was Dolfinite used as a filler or did the company have something by that brand?

Just curious...
