Trying to find out how this 17‘ Otca wound up in the lobby of my condo In Washington State. Thanks, Benson. Yr cousin, Jim.

Too funny.
I know exactly how a Prospector ended up on my truck today, but not what lame story I am going to tell my wife.

Hi Jim, welcome. The Old Town canoe with serial number 168962 is a 17 foot long Otca model with a keel. It was built between June and July, 1959. The original exterior paint color was Old Town blue. It shipped on March 10th, 1960 to Tacoma, Washington. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or renew.

It is also possible that the canoe could be another number or from a different manufacturer if this description doesn't match. I'm not sure how it got from a dealer in Tacoma to your building but the owners' association may have more details. A quick search here for Otca and Washington indicates that many were shipped to the area during that era and before. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

The canoe is literally attached to a wall in the lobby of my condo. It appears to have been masquerading as a Monohon Canoe. The company was established across Lake Sammamish from me. The town of Monohon became part of Sammamish. The condo name is Monohon, and the developer's deception has been uncovered. Lol.

The decal has been partially removed, and it has been painted a shade of red, not even close to an OT color. It’s still a beauty.

Thanks, Benson.
