My cousin lives in central Oregon, and his Agriculture teacher was retiring and had an old boat hanging from his ceiling which he gave to my cousin. It sat in my cousins barn about 10 years before he gave it to me, and now I am trying to determine who, what. where, when, and why about this boat before I start putting money into it. It had no markings, tags, or labels, but it does have the HIN number. Hopefully someone here can help me track. it down. I have pictures of it that will be coming soon as well. As far as I can tell, Its an Old Town. Looks identical to the ones I have found on auction sites and restoration forums.
HIN# 132198

Heres what I got
the close up of the number reads: 132198

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 132198 is a 12 foot long, AA (or top) grade Sportboat with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany seats, half ribs, and a keel. It was built between April and May, 1941. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 26th, 1941 to Detroit, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The Sportboat model was listed in the catalogs from 1941 to 1971. The 1946 catalog page at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/34734/ has some more details. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
